This is a simple tutorial to show you how to make a sketchy text style.....
This is the finished result we will be creating today, i am using Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 extended.

This is the finished result we will be creating today, i am using Adobe Photoshop CS5.5 extended.

Step 1.
Open Adobe Photoshop and create a new blank document, with a transparent background. I am using a 500x200 size picture, so it will fit on the blog, however you can use any size you want.
Step 2.
Fill the background with black using the paint bucket tool. Rename this layer in the layers panel as 'background'.

Step 3.
Change the foreground colour to white and select the type tool, and type out your message. I am writing 'sketchy text' but you can type whatever you desire. Choose a large size font that fills the screen, or change to suit your needs. I am using font called 'geomancy' and size 60pt.

Step 4.
Right click the text layer on the layers panel and then choose 'create work path'. Nothing may appear to happen, but if you click the 'eye' on the text layer you will see that an outline of the text appears.

Step 5.
Create a new blank layer above the text layer.
Step 6.
Select the brush tool from the side menu, or press B. Ensure foreground colour is set to white.
Set up the brush, using the round brush 25 and tweaking the settings to match image below.

Step 7.
Click the 'dual brush' option in the brush options and choose the splatter 14 brush and set up as below.

Step 8.Click the 'eye' icon on the TEXT LAYER so only the outline is showing.
On the blank layer, select the pen tool.
Hover over the text and right click and select 'stroke path'

Choose 'brush' as the tool, and un-tick the 'stimulate pressure' box and click OK.
Step 9.
Your text should now be all sketchy :)
If you have selected a different size background to start with you may need to change the brush size settings. If you have a larger background size, then increase the brush size, if you have a smaller background size then shrink the brush size.
Final Result.

Try it out for yourself and see what cool stuff you can create with very little effort!
